Skill Level: High School Curriculum: Language Arts Life Skills Accessibility Features: Switch Activity Details: Designed with older female students in mind, this activity allows students to give a model a complete beauty makeover. To do this, students will make several selections in various categories. The name of each category and number of selections within each category include the following: eye shadow (4), lipstick (3), hairstyle (5), outfit (28), necklace (10), picture frame pattern (6), and picture frame color (8). With literally thousands of different outcomes, a unique makeover is likely to be produced each time the activity is played. Students will also be able to take “before” and “after” photographs of the model using their very own virtual camera. From the sound of the snapshot to the flash of the camera, students will be able to experience what it is like to be behind a camera taking a photograph. Students can also choose to print their makeover. Special attention was given to the print option, which is programmed to print only the “before and after” page.
Each step of the makeover was designed to function as a “mini” cause-and-effect activity. The choices are supported with sound and animation to encourage exploration. However, in order to move from one step to the next, students must select a button specifically designated for making this transition. Therefore, this activity also helps students develop the skills necessary for more disciplined switch use. As for the choices in each step, they are essentially errorless. However, students are verbally encouraged to make color-coordinating selections. Therefore, teachers can also use this activity to assess color recognition and color matching for students who have developed more advanced switch skills. In order to make the activity accessible to students who require auditory scanning, each button has been given a unique name. The activity is also programmed to magnify all buttons four times their original size in “Dedicated Scanning” mode to accommodate for students with visual impairments.
Note:
Teachers can also download “CE-Virtual Makeover” for a less advanced version of this activity.

03/31/2010 keenk Love it! Thank you so much for sharing. You've made some girly-high school girls very happy. :-)
07/12/2008 jdubose001 I'm so glad y'all are enjoying it!
06/18/2008 mskathy0724 This is great. I have 2 very "girlie" girls this summer in 1st and K. They love this. When they complete spelling and math they are rewarded with this activity. The 2 boys are jealous and want an all boy activity, but I've caught them watching the girls as they do their glamorous makeovers.
06/18/2008 sbaur What a great activity. Our female students with Autism will really enjoy this activity. Very nicely done.
02/23/2008 jdubose001 Hi Aileen:
Try downloading the activity again and maybe the problem will fix itself. Make sure you import the activity into Intellitools and open it in Intellitools. Also, do not move any of the files once you have imported it. Please email me to let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions.
My email address is: joannadubose@hughes.net

02/22/2008 aileen This is a great activity for one of my older students but when I get near the end, I get a message that the Other Files.xst can not be found and can go no further. I can see that folder but can not seem to get the Beauty Makeover.xst to hook up with the Other Files-can you help?

Lots of preparation.. Should be an exciting task for many.

08/04/2007 argmom JoAnna, this is outstanding! You have obviously put a ton of work into this and it looks so professional. Thank you very, very much for taking the time to make such a quality activity. My daughter has a commercial makeover program that she enjoys but cannot access independently, which is frustrating for her, so she will have a ball with this.
08/04/2007 Lucy Nutt This is a FABULOUS activity for girls! Thank you so much for all of your hard work!
